Women Build’s Second Annual Paint n’ Sip fundraising night was held this past Friday, April 28th, at the Foss Waterway Seaport. Over twenty-five participants sipped delicious wine and ate tasty snacks as they painted decorative bird houses in support of the Women Build program here in Tacoma/Pierce County.
In 1991, Habitat for Humanity International began Women Build as an opportunity for women to become more actively involved in improving their communities and their construction skills in a supportive and engaging environment.

Alison, Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build chair, sees Women Build as an empowering opportunity for women from all walks of life. She was thrilled to see the turn out, which raised $960 for Women Build.
“We are always glad to bring new faces into the group. It’s not about excluding men but rather about including women.”
The event comes just two weeks before the May 13th National Women Build Week kickoff, an annual event that invites women to devote at least one day to help families build strength, stability and independence through housing. The week is meant to spotlight the homeownership challenges faced by women.
