My Habitat Story: Tim Large, Milgard Windows & Doors

Tim is a Milgard® Windows & Doors employee who first learned about the good works of Habitat for Humanity 14 years ago while living in Chicago. When Tim moved to Tacoma in 2012, he looked for opportunities at the Milgard corporate office to volunteer with the local Habitat affiliate.

Since then, Tim has had a passion for bringing Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity projects to the Milgard MG/CAT corporate team, which has included annual group build days of between 5 to 20 people.

IMG_3906MG/CAT, which was started by Carol Milgard, wife of the founder, Gary Milgard, allows Milgard employees to actively give back to the communities in which they live and work. There are multiple MG/CAT teams in the western US – one in each of the seven Milgard plants as well as the corporate office.

As a member of the MG/CAT team in the corporate office, Tim helps determine what charitable causes Milgard will support each year.

IMG_3910.JPGOne of Tim’s favorite Habitat experiences was two years ago. The Milgard corporate marketing team put together a video featuring the group working at The Woods at Golden Given. Although they did not install Milgard windows that day, the project did include Milgard Style Line® Series vinyl windows which were selected for their energy efficiency and durability. Tim says it has been great to see the progress in the neighborhood since then. He’s also had the opportunity to connect several times since with Lindsay, the Habitat homeowner the team met that day.

“The great thing about volunteering with Habitat is all of the different people you encounter,” says Tim. “It’s not just one particular homeowner – it’s all of the volunteers, staff, and individuals you meet. Habitat is like a big family.”
