Jesse Holder is the Director of Brewery Operations for Harmon Brewing, a Tacoma staple that’s coming up on its 20th year in production. When Harmon was approached to be a sponsor at the inaugural Habitat Challenge, the rappelling fundraiser held in September, Jesse jumped at the chance to support an organization so near to his heart.
Jesse’s mom, Carole Ford, met her husband while volunteering for Habitat for Humanity in 2011. From there, his support for Habitat’s mission has flourished.
“I think Habitat does a phenomenal job of providing housing for those who can’t usually afford a home,” he said. “It gives people a new start in life and supporting our community in that way is what the Harmon is all about.”
Jesse’s support went further when he took the Habitat Challenge himself, rappelling 26 stories down the Hotel Murano.
“I’m a bit of a thrill-seeker,” he said. “When I heard about this, I thought: ‘When will I ever have this opportunity again?’”
Jesse believes that when businesses give back to their community, it comes back at you two-fold.
“We invest in our community because they invest in us,” he said. “We want to pay it forward by giving to organizations that do just that.”
